Artist bio - meet Stephanie McCormick

Stephanie was a grandmother before she ever tried quilting.  Crocheting had been her form of entertainment for years and there were afghans everywhere to prove it!  She had just discovered the fun of making doilies when her daughter asked for a baby quilt.  She wasn't sure how to get started, but after taking one class and purchasing a hundred dollars worth of plastic templates (which were never used, by the way) she was off and running.

Now an accomplished quilter, nearly everything is completed by machine.  Her first quilt was made for her second grandchild in 1996 and there has been no less than 2 quilts in progress from that time on.  After making nearly 100 bed quilts and wall hangings, she finds she loves best to work with bright colors, variegated threads and beading.

Stephanie won the Martingale Publishing Memory Quilt contest in 1999 and her quilt "Stargazing Down Under" hung in the Houston International Quilt Show that year.  In 2000, her quilt "From Sea to Shining Sea" was selected to be in Sandy Bonsib's book "Quilting More Memories" - the "From Sea to Shining Sea" quilt can be seen in the picture of Stephanie on the right.

Her expertise doesn't end with photo quilts and personalized quilts.  She is innovative with both color and style, leaning toward free style contemporary or traditional art quilts in bright colors.

Stephanie lives in mid-Michigan and has grown children living in Ohio and Michigan - great places to visit now that she's retired from her former life.  Her favorite past times when not at the sewing machine are flower gardening, reading, bicycle riding and traveling.
